How to Differentiate the Different Types of Tea

By Susan Carey If you want to metamorphose into a more relaxed, mindful and balanced individual, throw out your coffee mug and have a cup of tea instead. You can either purchase conveniently packed tea bags or buy tea in its loose form. To brew, put tea or a tea ball in a pot or mug and pour in a cup of boiling water for each teaspoon of herb or tea. Cover and let steep for 15 minutes before straining and drinking. Teas can be enjoyed hot or cold (chilled then served with ice). Check out the list below for the basic differences between teas for brewing: * Black Tea - A dark and richly flavored beverage made from dried, oxidized and fermented leaves of the shrub Camellia sinensis, this tea has the highest caffeine level, about half as much as a cup of coffee. * Chai - This tasty mixture of milk, black tea, and spices originated in India. * Green Tea - A light and subtly flavored beverage made from Camellia sinensis leaves that are not allowed to oxidize or ferment. Green tea has about half as much caffeine as black tea. * Herbal Teas - These are various herbs (leaves, stems, fruits, bark, flowers and roots of plants) steeped in hot water that are more correctly called “tisanes” rather than teas because they contain no leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. They are caffeine-free. Often, several herbs are blended together. * Mate - Also called yerba mate, this stimulating drink with a lot of caffeine is from South America, and is brewed from toasted wild holly leaves. * Oolong Tea - Semi-fermented teas, such as oolong, are made from the Camellia sinensis leaves, but they are less oxidized than green and white teas. These teas also contain caffeine, but not as much as black tea does. * Rooibos - Also known as red bush. Made from needle-like leaves of a South African shrub, rooibos is similar in taste to black tea but without the caffeine. It allegedly has antioxidant and cancer-preventive properties. * White Tea - Considered the rarest of the teas made from Camellia sinensis, this delicate tea is produced from blossoms and young shoots. How To Make A Candy Cane Christmas Bouquet

By Peta Fletcher Wow! I can’t believe it. It’s almost Christmas time again! Every year it seems to get here quicker and quicker! This Christmas I decided to make some Christmas themed bouquets to surprise friends and family who will see us over the holiday period. This candy cane bouquet looks great, and doesn’t take long to make. It’s can also be a fun and simple project for children to make. You will need: 50 mini candy canes 1 bunch of silk poinsettias 1 bunch of silk holly Thick wire and some thin wire Stem tape Step 1: Wire and tape the poinsettias and holly… Wire and tape all the poinsettias and holly onto the thin wires. Do not remove the leaves, as these will help add some more variety to the candy bouquet. Step 2: Wire and tape the candy canes… To wire the candy canes just place the wire against the candy cane then stem tape into place. DON’T try to twist the wire around the candy cane as it will make the candy break! Step 3: Start arranging the candy bouquet… Take seven of the poinsettia flowers and hold them in one hand. Now place five candy canes in-between the flowers. If you want to make the bouquet bigger use more flowers and candy canes in the middle of the bouquet. Fan the flowers and candy canes out a little to give the bouquet more shape. Step 4: Add the holly… Place nine pieces of holly around the outside of the poinsettias. Now take another seven candy canes and place them in-between the holly, making sure the candy canes can been seen in the middle and around the outside of the bouquet. Step 5: Wire and tape the handle… Trim your wires and then tape your handle. Step 6: Add any extra items you desire… You can add some extra items to add some variety if you wish. Tinsel and little boxes wrapped to look like presents are very effective. You could keep the red and white theme going by adding red and white ribbons on the outside of the holly. Finally, to display the candy cane bouquet, just place it in a small vase on your table at Christmas time. Just make sure you make a note of how many candy canes are in the bouquet because they may suddenly start to vanish! This quick and easy bouquet will add that nice touch to any Christmas table. You’re Retired, Now What?

By Kyle Haley For years youve lived in that sprawling house where you raised your children . . . its home. But now you dont need all the space and the upkeep is becoming more difficult every year. You now have to consider things that werent issues before. When you were younger, you never thought about how many times a day you went up and down the stairs. You didnt mind having the bedroom upstairs and the laundry facilities in the basement. Now, all those steps are taking their toll. Washing windows isnt as easy as it was before either, is it? Climbing an extension ladder to reach the second story becomes a bit scarier with each passing year. As you age, you become more concerned about falling. You may be thinking its finally time to move into a home thats a bit more senior-friendly, but what are your options? Smaller, single level houses Condominiums Apartments Retirement communities Assisted living facilities Lets take a more detailed look at these options: Smaller homes built on one level with convenient laundry facilities may be what you need. Look for a house that requires little outside maintenance. A brick or vinyl-sided house wont require painting. An open floor plan may be helpful if youre ever confined to a wheelchair. A smaller yard allows you to garden but still keeps the yard work to a minimum. An attached garage is a helpful feature, especially in the winter when icy sidewalks can cause falls. Of course, finding a location thats close to shopping, public transportation and medical facilities is also important. Condominiums provide privacy without a lot of maintenance. Like individual houses, there are many different types of condominiums from which to choose. The main advantage of a condo is that outside maintenance of both the structure and the yard is usually provided. Most condos include a small area where you can plant flowers but the lawn and other common areas are maintained by the association. There are additional fees for this mandatory service so be sure to find out if they will fit into your budget. Apartments require no maintenance. One of the main advantages of apartment living is that you arent responsible for any maintenance. You dont have to worry about painting, replacing major appliances or yard work. Apartments also give you a certain degree of freedom because you dont have to worry about them if you travel a lot. Its important for laundry facilities to be easily accessible and that there is an elevator if your apartment is to be on a higher floor. You wont have as much privacy and your only personal outdoor space may be limited to a small patio or balcony, if that. Rent is likely to increase and is not tax deductible on your Federal returns. Retirement communities or assisted living facilities give you the highest level of security. Both of these options are specifically designed for seniors and offer many safety features not found in regular housing. The amount of privacy you have depends on which community you choose. Your medical condition will usually dictate whether a retirement community or assisted living facility is your best choice. Some retirement communities offer private living space, much like individual homes, as long as youre healthy and then provides assisted living if your health deteriorates. Giving up the home where youve lived for many, many years may seem a little scary. But, often a new home that brings less responsibility and greater peace of mind will make you feel years younger. At night, avoid going to secluded, dark areas like parks or dimly lit places. 9. Listen to what your gut says. If there is something that does not feel right, then most likely, it is not. Leave immediately if you feel something isnt quite right. 10. Tell someone whom you are with and where you will be going. You might also want to arrange a time schedule where someone could call you later and check up on you. You could also plan to meet some friends after the date. 11.
